Department Profile

Established in 2002, the Department of Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering at Sree Buddha College of Engineering is recognized for its excellence in teaching and research. Accredited NAAC (A) and the NBA since 2019. The department offers a multidisciplinary curriculum in molecular life sciences and engineering, with B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. programs focused on workforce development and research


The curriculum blends life sciences and engineering, covering microbiology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and bioprocess design. Supported by four PhD holders, the department emphasizes outcome-based education, innovation, and entrepreneurship


Collaborating with organizations like DBT, AYUSH, and Universiti Sains Malaysia, it focuses on molecular diagnostics, nanotechnology, bioprocessing, and biofuels. Student projects often result in publications in SCI and Scopus-indexed journals, including a pioneering human genome mapping project of Kerala’s ethnic populations


The department emphasizes academic rigor, research excellence, and industry collaboration, preparing students for professional success and lifelong learning.

  • Soap-Making Unit: Produces eco-friendly soaps, promoting self-sufficiency and bioproduct manufacturing
