Report on Alumni Talk Series: “Campus to Career” by Merissa Ann Thomas

On January 19, 2025, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) hosted the first session of its Alumni Talk Series, titled “Campus to Career.” The event was designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, offering students a valuable opportunity to gain insights from accomplished alumni who have successfully transitioned into their careers. This session was attended by 40 students and aimed to provide guidance on navigating interviews, tests, and the early stages of a professional career.
The meeting was hosted by Ms. Minu Lalitha Madhavu, AP in CSE ( AI&ML) and the event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Anil A.R., Head of the Department (CSE – AI & ML). Dr. Anil emphasized the importance of connecting students with alumni, who can offer first-hand insights into real-world challenges and opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
Following the welcome address, the highlight of the event was the Alumni Talk delivered by Ms. Merissa Ann Thomas, an alumna from the 2020-2024 batch. Ms. Merissa, currently an Associate-I in Cloud Infrastructure at UST, shared her enriching journey from being a student in the Department of CSE (AI & ML) to excelling in the dynamic field of cloud infrastructure. Her talk offered a detailed perspective on the skills required to succeed in the industry and provided practical tips on approaching interviews, understanding industry trends, and navigating professional growth.
Ms. Merissa’s personal experiences, especially regarding interviews and the challenges faced during the early stages of her career, were of great value to the students. Her insights offered a roadmap for current students on how to effectively apply their academic knowledge to real-world problems and how to prepare for competitive job opportunities.
The session was followed by an interactive Q&A, where students actively participated by asking questions related to placements, interview preparation, and career paths. The students expressed their gratitude for the session, which left them feeling motivated and better prepared for their own career journeys.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Rabi Athul, who thanked Ms. Merissa for her valuable contribution and insights, as well as the participants for their enthusiasm and interaction throughout the session.
The Department of CSE (AI & ML) is inspired by the success of this session and is motivated to continue organizing such activities in the future to foster a deeper connection between the department and its alumni network, ultimately enriching the students’ learning experiences and preparing them for the professional world.
In summary, the Alumni Talk Series provided a meaningful and enriching experience for all attendees, and the department looks forward to hosting more such events in the future.

WORKSHOP ON ROBOTICS

Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning successfully conducted a 3 day workshop on “Robotics” from 19/2/24-21/2/24. Workshop was conducted by “Stem Robotics” Founder and CEO, Mr. Rajasekharan A H. Around 128 school students and 63 AI&ML students attended the workshop

WORKSHOP ON MACHINE LEARNING USING PYTHON

Two Day Workshop on Machine Learning The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning hosted a two-day workshop on MACHINE LEARNING USING PYTHON on 15th and 16st September 2023 from 9am to 4pm in the SDPK lab of the CSE building. The resource person was Prof. Shiju Thomas, Assistant Professor, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Ernakulam

 

REPORT -TALK ON STARTUPS
On 5th April 2023, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Pattoor organized a talk on startups, which was delivered by Mr. Joy Sebastian, the CEO and co-founder of Techgensia Pvt Ltd, Infopark, Cherthala. The talk aimed to educate the students about the journey of a startup, the challenges faced, and the potential opportunities that can be explored.
The event was attended by the students of various departments. The program started with the welcome address by Dr Anil A R, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) Department, who introduced the guest speaker and highlighted his achievements.
Mr. Joy Sebastian then started his talk by sharing his personal experiences and journey in the field of startups. He spoke about his struggles and the challenges he faced while starting Techgensia. He also shared how he overcame these challenges and turned his startup into a successful business. Mr. Sebastian’s talk was highly engaging and informative, and it provided the students with valuable insights on how to start a business and make it successful.
Moreover, Mr. Sebastian also discussed the potential of startups in the current market scenario and how they can contribute to the growth of the economy. He emphasized the importance of innovation and creativity in startups and encouraged the students to think outside the box and come up with unique ideas. In addition to the talk, an MOU was signed between Techgensia and Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Pattoor.
During the talk, Mr. Sebastian also shared his thoughts on the importance of collaborations between industry and academia. He shared how Techgensia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sree Buddha College of Engineering to provide internships, training, and placement opportunities for the students. The MoU was aimed at bridging the gap between industry and academia and providing practical exposure to the students.
The event concluded with a Q&A session where the students had the opportunity to clarify their doubts and queries with Mr. Joy Sebastian. The session was highly interactive, and Mr. Sebastian answered the questions patiently and provided valuable insights.
Overall, the talk by Mr. Joy Sebastian was highly informative and motivating, and it provided the students with a deeper understanding of the startup ecosystem. The event was organized successfully, and it helped the students to gain valuable insights and knowledge on the potential opportunities in the startup world. The MoU signed between Techgensia and Sree Buddha College of Engineering will be highly beneficial for the students, and it will provide them with practical exposure and placement opportunities in the field of startups. The talk was well-received by the students and faculty members, and it provided valuable insights into the startup ecosystem and the role of technology in it.

Machine Learning Using Python

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Pattoor organized Machine Learning Using Python on 27/10/2022 and 28/10/2022 at 9 am in association with AI and ML Dept. of SBCE. The expert speaker was Dr.Shiju Thomas M Y, Assistant Professor Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The mentoring session was conducted at SDPK Lab. 58 participants attended the mentoring session. The expert speaker explained about Python Basics and Machine Learning. The workshop was started with an introduction by Mr. Athul Sai, student of AI & ML. Mr.Allen Shabu, Student Representative of AI & ML, proposed the welcome speech. Dr Anil A.R , HoD, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning done a felicitation. The expert speaker explained the basics of Python and concepts of Machine Learning. The 2 days workshop covered various topics of Machine Learning using Python Various packagaes and tools for Machine Learning were familiarized in the workshop. The speaker interacted with the students and gave clarifications for the different queries from various students and faculty members.Ms. Bibisha Susan Mathew, Student Representative of AI & ML, proposed the vote of thanks. Attendance and Feedback were collected from the participants using Google form. E-Certificates were distributed to attendees using Google Drive.
