IEDC ACTIVITIES FOR 2023-24
GROUP DYNAMICS IN STARTUPS
IEDC, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering and IIC conducted a one day workshop on ‘Group Dynamics in startups’ on 7th June 2023. Mr. Rahul Manohar O., IEDC Nodal officer of Christ College of Engineering, Thrissur was the resource person. He introduced innovation and design engineering to participants and made them do group activities to enhance communication skills between partners. 55 students of various branches attended the workshop. IEDC nodal officer Ms. Regi P. Mohan coordinated the event. Feedback was taken and students expressed excellent reviews.

ORIENTATION SESSION FOR IEDC EXECOM 2023 – 2024
IEDC Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha organized an online orientation session for `IEDC EXECOM’ on 10th September 2023 from 07:30 pm to 8:30 pm via Google Meet. Resource person for the session was Mr. Jubin Thaj, Assistant Manager at RINP and IEDC Ex CEO of AJCE, Kanjirapally. The session was intended for around 20 IEDC members of SBCE, primarily for the IEDC EXECOM and core team members to give awareness on managing IEDC and tips for developing entrepreneurial skills. An introduction of speaker was given by Ms. Gowri Murali, Woman Entrepreneurship lead. Mr. Jubin Thaj started the session by explaining about IEDC and different roles of EXECOM and their responsibilities in IEDC followed by the ideas or projects which made a life changing turns in his life. His journey from an academician to an entrepreneur was also detailed. He also mentioned about patents and funding opportunities available for the students from KSUM, Kerala agricultural University etc. By the end there was a Q&A session which was quite useful and clarified the doubts of the participants. Nodal officer Ms. Regi P. Mohan thanked Mr. Jubin Thaj for the time and effort in preparing and the valuable insights he shared. Mr. Krishna Suraj, Community lead proposed the vote of thanks. Feedback was collected from the participants.


A PATH TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP & ROLE OF IEDC – ORIENTATION FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
IEDC of SBCE organized a one-day orientation session on the topic “A Path to Entrepreneurship and role of IEDC” at the Library Seminar Hall on 25th September 2023. Mr Ajay Basil Varghese, Assistant Professor Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology, who is also serving as Incubation Manager in TBI, ASIET delivered the session for young aspirants in Entrepreneurship. IEDC Nodal officer Ms. Regi P. Mohan delivered the welcome speech and gave an introduction about Entrepreneurship. She commented on the importance of entrepreneurship skills in young minds. The orientation session provided immense knowledge for the student community in various branches of Engineering. The speaker had shared the experiences and hurdles he had experienced to become a successful entrepreneur. The information shared through the session was adequate to encourage them to compete in various technological events conducted by state government and central government for promoting startup incubators. Students expressed an excellent feed back about the session.

A team of 250+ students & 4 faculties attended the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) Summit 2023 held at College of Engineering Trivandrum on 12th October 2023.

VENTURE PLANNING & PITCH DECK PREPARATION

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre of SBCE in association with IIC & ED club organised an entrepreneurship workshop on VENTURE PLANNING & PITCH DECK PREPARATION on 29th Nov 2022 for IEDC students. The session was handled by Mr. Arun J. S. (Nodal officer of CATALYST, MBCET). The session covered innovation, activities of IEDC, KSUM, pitching an idea, and preparing a business model canvas.

INNOVATORS’ PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL2.0) LAUNCH&ORIENTATION SESSION ON INNOVATION, ENTERPRNEURSHIP&STARTUPS FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS  CONDUCTED ON 04-11-2022

IEDC in association with the ED Club at Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha organized a orientation session for First Year students on 4th November 2022 from 10.00 am to

1.15 am at Ashoka Auditorium. The session was preceded by Inaugural ceremony of IEDC activities of SBCE in connection with IPL2.0. Resource person for the workshop was Mr. Adarsh V, Project Assistant, IEDC, Kerala Startup Mission. The workshop was intended for all first year students SBCE, to give awareness on IEDC and developing entrepreneurial culture in campus.

Ms. Adarsh V started the session by narrating the stories behind well known innovators. He explained about innovation, design thinking, entrepreneurship, startup ecosystem in India and Kerala, procedure for registering startup, types of funding etc. He also explained the role of KSUM and IEDC in developing startup culture in campus. Speaker also encouraged the participants to ask queries. The participants expressed excellent feedback about the session that it motivated them to think out of the box.

IEDC of SBCE in association with ED Club and IIC organized an online session on “Financial Investment Planning for Innovators” on 29th July 2022 from 7.00 pm – 8.00 pm through google meet. Ms. Nisary Mahesh, Founder, and CEO of ‘ Her Money Talks ‘ was the expert speaker. She explained financial goal setting, types of financial assets, various investment instruments, etc. She also stressed the importance of investing early and wisely to the participants. About 60 participants were there including faculties and students.

IEDC in association with the ED Club and IIC at Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha organized a one-day orientation workshop on ‘Managing IEDC and Developing Entrepreneurial Skills’ on 1st July 2022 from 09:30 am to 4.00 pm at the seminar hall, Civil Department block. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Pradeep Raj, Head of Innovation Centre, Mohandas College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The workshop was intended for around 40 IEDC members of SBCE, primarily for the IEDC core team members to give awareness on managing IEDC and developing entrepreneurial skills.

ONE DAY IEDC WORKSHOP ON IDEATION TO STARTUP & FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

IEDC in association with the ED Club and IIC at Sree Buddha College of Engineering., Pattoor organized a one-day workshop on Ideation to start-up & funding opportunities on 6th May 2022. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Ajay Basil Varghese, Nodal Officer of IEDC and TBI Adi Sankara Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kalady. Mr. Ajay is an academician and an entrepreneur. The workshop was conducted for 120 IEDC members of SBCE to give awareness about ideation, Innovation & entrepreneurship. Mr. Ajay started with the story of his journey from academician to entrepreneur. He explained about innovation, entrepreneurship, ideation, and development of business models. 20 Student groups were formulated followed by brainstorming sessions and pitched their idea for a startup. They also gave a 2-minute presentation of their business model. Mr. Ajay gave proper comments on the presentations and encouraged them. He also made them understand patents and funding opportunities available for the IEDCs and students. The students expressed excellent feedback about the workshop that motivated them to think out of the box and realize their potential. The workshop was followed by an appreciation session of the top performers of IPL, an ideation competition etc. The last one-year journey of SBCE IEDC was also presented and encouraged students to get involved in more programs. Student coordinators of the workshop were: Mr. Aravind Sreekumar(CE), Mr. Brighty Jiji (AI), Mr. Aman Vinod (AI), Mr. B.Ashwin (ME).

BOOT CAMP

Kerala Start-Up Mission in association with IEDC Sahrdaya organized a boot camp on Research Innovation Network Kerala (RINK) – Research Translation and Commercialization for the faculty members of Engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes in Kerala at Sahridaya College of Engineering & Technology, Thrissur on 8th April 2022. Dr. Trijo Tharayil, IIC convenor of SBCE attended it.

MENTOR – MENTEE INTERACTION CUM TRAINING PROGRAM

Institute Innovation Council convenor Dr. Trijo Tharayil (Associate Professor, ME department) along with IIC member and IEDC Nodal officer & IIC start up coordinator Ms. Regi P. Mohan (Assistant Professor, CE department) attended a Training program for Mentee Institutions conducted by the National Institute of Technology Calicut on 10th & 11th March 2022 at NIT Calicut. It was a great experience for the participants to interact with NITC director Prof. Prasad Krishna. NITC IIC convenor Dr. Baiju G. Nair and Preethi Manniledam (CEO of TBI, NIT Calicut) were the coordinators of the training program. There were sessions on Product thinking, Design thinking, IPR, IP filing, Establishing incubation and pre incubation facilities etc taken by experts and mentors. There was also a visit to NITC TBI and KSUM office at Cyberpark.

Institute Innovation Council convenor Dr. Trijo Tharayil (Associate Professor, ME department) along with IIC member and IEDC Nodal officer Ms. Regi P. Mohan (Assistant Professor, CE department) attended a Training program for Mentee Institutions conducted by National Institute of Technology Calicut under Mentor-Mentee Institute Interaction programme for IIC institutions on 10th & 11th March 2022 at NIT Calicut.
Our IEDC team of 10 students with Nodal officers attended IEDC Summit at SJCET Palai on March 5th, 2022. SBCE IEDC has become the Runners up in the top colleges in the Alappuzha district in Innovation Premier League (IPL) Awards 2021. Athul U. of third-semester Electronics & Communication Engineering has become the Topper in Alappuzha in district-level IPL awards. Congratulations to Team SBCE IEDC!!!
IEDC (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell)
Sree Buddha College of Engineering was approved as IEDC/Startup Bootcamp under Kerala Startup mission in August 2015.The objective of IEDC is to apply institutional mechanism to develop Entrepreneurial culture among the students. The college has a dedicated space for the students to work after college hours to improve their technical skills .The Entrepreneurship development center provide opportunity for the students in the college to present their innovative ideas in various idea pitching contests. Students were also given exposure to interact with different Entrepreneurs.
Mr. Gopu Darsan, Assistant professor, Department of computer Science and Engineering was selected as the Nodal Officer of the Bootcamp of Sree Buddha College of Engineering. The Selection of the student executive members of the college is done every year.
